빌라 is derived from the English word villa. Whereas in English a "villa" may refer to a large home or estate, possibly in the countryside, in Korean the word refers to a specific type of condominium or apartment typically situation in a mixed-use commercial and residential district. These homes are cheaper than the ones found in the massive private apartment complexes known as 아파트 and are considered to be less luxurious.
